Among the Avatar-themed cutest MTG cards proves to be a nasty little powerhouse.

the popular card game’s special Avatar expansion won’t get a wider release until later this week, but due to early access events this past weekend, a low-cost green spell experienced a surge in value.

From the initial reveals, Badgermole Cub garnered widespread focus. A creature with stats 2/2 requiring one green and one colorless mana, the card includes Earthbending 1 (perhaps the strongest of the set’s four “bending” mechanics). Its key advantage in its design comes from its second ability: If mana is generated by tapping a creature, it provides bonus green mana.

When first listed, this card was available for $26.98. After the pre-release weekend, yet, its value jumped to nearly $50 with at least one listed as high as $60. The reason for Vivi prices for this cute lil guy? Mostly due to the incredible mana acceleration it can produce.

When it arrives the board, this creature converts a terrain card to a creature land that has earthbending. Alongside its mana-doubling effect, as long as it stays in play, every earthbent land produces twice the mana — in addition to other creatures you have that generate mana.

A clear choice for synergy would be this one-mana elf, a low-cost creature which can be tapped for G mana. Yet numerous other mana generation creatures available. Another option is a more expensive alternative a 1/3 creature for two mana instead.

By playing lands, mana-producing creatures, and Badgermole Cub, you can easily get an enormous and very expensive creature into play within a few turns. Momentum builds rapidly if you keep the pressure on from that point.

If you dip into a secondary color using this method, cards like Fuel Tank Feaster, Ilysian Caryatid, and Paradise Druid work perfectly that can make any color of mana. Additionally, this powerful dryad enables playing an additional land per turn plus makes all of your lands providing all land types. Another possibility is for example a card called A Realm Reborn, which for six mana gives each permanent you control the ability to produce a mana of any type — including each creature you have on the board.

Badgermole Cub could be too strong in terms of boosting mana production, but what’s the endgame finisher with this archetype? A common and powerful choice has been this legendary creature. Its power and toughness are both equal to the number of lands you control, and it changes each creature you own to be Forests as well as their other types. This means, each creature you control can produce double green if used for mana.

This additional option is a costly, large threat that benefits from many terrain cards (as with the previous card, its stats match your land total).

Nissa, Who Shakes the World is an excellent fit in this deck. One of her abilities causes all Forests produce extra green. (Combined with earthbend, this results in all earthbend forests generate three green mana.) One loyalty ability functions like a proto-earthbend, placing counters on terrain, which is great but it isn't redundant with earthbending. Her ultimate, however, grants each land you control immune to destruction and lets you put onto the battlefield all the remaining forests in the deck. Should you manage to use this power, it almost certainly the game ends.

The cub is pretty much essential for any kind of green Avatar deck that use earthbend. If you dip into red-green, you can use Bumi Unleashed. This card features level 4 earthbending, and when damage is dealt to an opponent, each animated land become untapped for another attack. Even though Bumi has become a beloved leader, the cub is definitely going to remain among the top, possibly the desired card in the collaboration.
