The British boxer Anthony Joshua has been discharged from hospital, Nigerian authorities announced on late Wednesday. The fighter was part of a serious road collision near Lagos on the 29th of December, a devastating event that resulted in the deaths of two of his close associates.
The sports star had been under observation while recovering from minor injuries, his promoter had said on Monday. A government official, Gbenga Omotoso, said in a statement on social media that Joshua was judged healthy enough to continue his recovery at home.
“The boxer and his mother were at the mortuary in Lagos this afternoon to offer their condolences to his two departed friends as they were being made ready for the journey back,” Omotosho said.
The victims of the crash were identified as Latif Ayodele, a personal trainer, and Sina Ghami, a performance coach. It was also noted that the boxer was “heavy-hearted and deeply emotional over the passing of his two trusted companions.”
His release from the hospital comes as the sports world offered sympathy for the fighter in the following the terrible crash.
