Fans eagerly awaiting the release of Dragon Quest 7 Reimagined don't need to wait too much longer. A exciting demo version will go live on January 7th, offering a substantial glimpse into the game's opening hours. Notably, all advancement made within this demo is eligible to be imported directly into the complete game upon its eventual release.
This project constitutes a comprehensive reinterpretation of the iconic 2000 JRPG, first titled Dragon Quest VII: Fragments of the Forgotten Past. Taking a notable step away from other Dragon Quest remakes, such as the recently launched HD-2D iterations, this version embraces a striking three-dimensional art style. Environments appear to evoke intricate miniature worlds, with party members having a whimsical chibi-esque appearance.
"Taking into account the previous remake, the main quest was remained notoriously lengthy. Consequently, the team reached a conclusion that we wanted to condense the story, [and] craft an adventure for modern players."
The development team has introduced several changes to refresh the original experience. These include:
These alterations are designed to address one of the 2000 game's most noted criticisms: its immense playtime. The initial storyline could easily require more than 100 hours to see through. The reimagined edition has been specifically reworked to improve flow and reduce perceived filler.
Interested adventurers will be able to start experiencing the reimagined world of Dragon Quest VII for themselves when the free demo releases on Wednesday, January 7th. Subsequently, the complete game, Dragon Quest 7 Reimagined, will then be scheduled to release on Feb. 5, 2026. The title will be available on a broad selection of platforms, such as Switch, Nintendo Switch 2, PS5, PC, and Xbox Series X.
