'Enduring a Horrific Ordeal': Families of Missing Young People Await Information After Alpine Inferno

The families of teenagers missing after a tragic blaze at a venue in a Switzerland's ski resort are enduring an agonising period of uncertainty for answers and requesting any details about their loved ones via social media.

The inferno devastated the a popular bar in Cans-Montana, located in the mountains of the Valais region, in the early hours of New Year's Day. Verified images show the ceiling catching alight as bottles with fireworks are raised in celebration.

Emergency services have indicated that it could take days if not weeks to identify the those who perished of the fire, which claimed the lives of 40 people and hurt another scores more. A spokesperson said on Friday that 113 of the injured have been identified, with the process continuing to identify the final individuals.

In the waiting period, relatives have been posting on online platforms to request any news about their missing relatives who were in attendance that fateful night.

Desperate Searches for the Unaccounted For

The whereabouts of Swiss national Arthur Brodard, a teenager, are not yet determined, according to an public plea from his parent.

The resident of a town near Lausanne, told a local newspaper that she had gone back to the city to check whether he was in the hospital, while his other parent did the equivalent search in the capital, but was unsuccessful.

"It feels like a terrible dream, an ordeal. The options are finding my son in the morgue, or I find him in critical condition. It's horrific," she stated.

The Italy's government has indicated that six of its citizens remain missing.
