Far-Right Former Congressman J.A. Kast Elected as Chile's New Leader.

After a definitive final ballot, hardline politician José Antonio Kast has secured the top job in Chile.

A Clear-Cut Triumph

After more than 99% of ballots counted, Kast secured 58.17% of the ballots, defeating leftist former minister Jeannette Jara, who obtained 41.83%.

This signifies Kast's third attempt at the presidency, having in the past been lost by the sitting president, Gabriel Boric, in the 2021 final vote.
