HBO's It Spinoff Premieres Second Ahead of Schedule on the Streaming Platform

Fans are eagerly awaiting for the Stephen King adaptation It: Welcome to Derry, already garnering praise and drawing from themes from the broader King universe. Following the premiere, the broadcaster has revealed that the second installment will premiere ahead of schedule, released fittingly for Halloween.

Early Release Particulars

Starting on October 31 at 3 a.m. EST, episode two of It: Welcome to Derry will launch on the streaming service, prior to its Sunday HBO premiere. The remaining installments of the eight-episode season will premiere on the weekend on both HBO and its streaming arm, culminating in the final episode on the 14th of December.

Show Background

Set in the Derry mythology, It: Welcome to Derry borrows elements from the classic book while enlarging the universe established by filmmaker Andy Muschietti in the two It films. It Chapter One highlighted adolescents facing terrifying threats, so it’s fitting that this show follows in those footsteps. However, the first installment of the HBO series demonstrates it aimed to escalate the fear, providing heightened horror than the cinematic versions and creating a brutal tone for the rest of the season.

Setting and Themes

Set in 1962, the program presents a different group of adults and children living in a apparently peaceful community concealing a dark secret. This place functions through a cruel, recurring cycle—characterized by hostility, discrimination, and otherworldly forces, as a monstrous presence resurfaces each 27-year cycle. While Welcome to Derry might appear like it skews too close to the films on the surface, what differentiates the digital program is its two-sided viewpoint—narrated via the perspectives of kids and grown-ups simultaneously. The kids stay particularly vulnerable to the monster's horror, but the adults don't escape dealing with their own nightmares born from Derry’s deep-seated bigotry and hidden paranormal elements.

Episode 2 airs on the 31st of October at midnight PT.
