The NFL franchise issued a statement Wednesday night indicating they have knowledge of claims of abuse made public in social media posts by a ex-partner of player the athlete and had been in contact with the NFL.
The team did not mention Rice specifically in their statement and stated they would have “nothing more to add at this time”.
Allegations Shared on Social Media
Dacoda Nichole Jones, who likewise did not name Rice directly, shared a set of images on Instagram that appeared to show signs of physical abuse. She did say the person involved was the parent of her kids, and reports indicate she has two children with Rice, whom the team selected in the second round.
No police reports were on file in the Kansas City suburb where the alleged abuse is said to have occurred.
The receiver was absent for the first six games of this season following an NFL suspension for his involvement in instigating a crash on a Dallas highway that resulted in multiple people hurt. He was sentenced 30 days in jail and probationary supervision after entering a guilty plea to serious offenses.
Statistically, Rice concluded the year with 53 receptions for 571 receiving yards and five TDs as the Kansas City finished 6-11 and missed the playoffs for the first time in a decade.
