Pat Bamford Signs With the Blades Despite Leading Derogatory Chants Targeting Manager Chris Wilder

The striker is now a member of the Championship side only half a year following starting insulting songs directed at their manager, Wilder.

This experienced striker, a free agent since leaving Leeds, has put pen to paper on a deal joining the Championship club in difficulty through the winter. His lengthy spell with Leeds finished amicably in August.

One of Bamford’s final notable acts as a Leeds player was to lead offensive chants regarding Wilder amid the club’s success festivities in April. Now, the one-cap England international will feature under Wilder as Sheffield United's boss aims to pull the team he loves out of the bottom places.

Past History Between the Striker and Wilder

Both men had a past prior to Leeds earned promotion to the Premier League the previous campaign while Sheffield United were defeated in the playoff final to Sunderland. The manager called the forward as “a muppet” back when the situation was different in 2018-19 and the Blades won automatic promotion while Leeds fell short in the playoffs.

Reconciliation and Moving Forward

Everything seems has been put behind them with Sheffield United, the Championship’s lowest scorers, in desperate need of improvement up front and Bamford aiming to rejuvenate his career.

The Wilder chant went viral in April. A repentant Patrick along with Leeds boss, Farke, phoned Wilder the next day.

Wilder stated at the time: “Spoke with Patrick yesterday and I have no issue at all with that. I’m not sure regarding the words used from a fellow pro! But I valued and respected him calling me.

“We had a short while and the same again I talked with Daniel as well and we had a half-hour chat together and he's a great person, a class act. Back in my playing days we would give it and accept it and that is an integral part of the game at every level, including Sunday league. I have absolutely no issue. I am cool with it and I said that to Pat.”

Recent Playing Struggles

The forward made 18 games with Leeds United last season but the former Forest, Chelsea FC and Middlesbrough striker has faced difficulties with fitness issues over the past few seasons.
