This historic hillside village, a ancient town in Andalucía, around 45 minutes’ drive from Granada, is the stimulating location for this art retreat. Painters of every skill level – even beginners – will be taught how to plan and create abstract artworks. Some time will be spent outdoors, working on structured activities en plein air. These sketches and paintings will then be expanded upon in the studio, with attendees completing several abstract landscapes in acrylic paint to be exhibited in the village. The group has sole use of the hotel, which is set around an open courtyard and has a rooftop with views over the countryside. This Mediterranean culinary holiday, based at a villa by the river in the inland Portuguese region, is draws inspiration from the plant-based cuisine of celebrated cooks. This energetic camp is an energizing, inclusive three-day adults’ street dance camp in High Wycombe. The daily schedule each day is a high-energy warm-up session, then three hour-and-a-half classes covering various street dance styles, then an 60-minute jam to show off those solos. Dancers are split into groups according to skill level, so it is suitable for those who are brand new to popping and locking, right up to advanced dancers or teachers. This event does not provide accommodation but there are several hostels and hotels nearby, and it is 23-35 minutes by train into central London.

This coastal town is the excellent setting for a sea shanty weekend. Guests will be taught traditional shanties from a folk singer and vocal coach, and have a go at composing original ones. There will be vocal warmups, breath control techniques, stagecraft advice and a closing performance. The holiday is based at a rural hotel with views of the bay. Full board are included, such as a Cornish cream tea on the first day, cooked or continental breakfasts, lunches to go and three-course dinners. Grog, alas, is not included. Writer and tutor an experienced instructor leads the regular sessions on this writing retreat. He covers topics including plot, characters, setting and suspense, to submitting work to publishers. Greg’s wife, the well-known writer Kate Mosse, will co-host events at the beginning and end of the week. The retreat is held at a village-style hotel in Vamos at the base of the Lefka Ori – ten private accommodations are set around a central garden with a pool (non-writing partners are encouraged to come along). On the last night, aspiring writers mark the occasion with a concert in the garden and a farewell dinner.

The Centre for Alternative Technology near Machynlleth runs a wide range of programs covering eco-living: from creating habitats to upcycling. This two-day introduction will help attendees learn the fundamentals of apiary management, explore the life cycle of bees and discover their ecological importance. It is aimed at produce “ecologically mindful beekeepers”. This course is also a opportunity to relax in the centre's sustainably managed forests, which are home to polecats, otters, dormice, bats and uncommon bird species. These new summer sailing weekends are spent on Wayfarers and Dufours on the Blackwater estuary. They are aimed at adult beginners starting out or more experienced mariners who want a refresher. Sailors can improve their helming, build their nautical skills and aim for the Royal Yachting Association’s certification levels in a supportive atmosphere. There are day-only and overnight options, staying in basic shared rooms in the waterside training centre.
