Trump's Approach Pose a Threat to Our Social Fabric.

His domestic and foreign initiatives – ranging from the challenge to the democratic process in the past to latest incursions and statements – erode not only national and global legal frameworks. The implications are broader.

These actions jeopardize the core idea of civilization itself.

A guiding principle of a functioning society is to forestall the dominant from preying upon and using the less powerful. Otherwise, we risk being trapped in a brutish war where might makes right wins.

This concept is central of the nation's founding texts. This is also the heart of the modern framework of international relations supported by the United States, built on collective action, democratic governance, individual liberties, and the legal authority.

However, it is a delicate principle, frequently ignored by those who choose to misuse their authority. Preserving it requires that the those in charge have enough integrity to refrain from seeking short-term wins, and that the public hold them accountable should they falter.

Unchecked strength is not right. It leads to turmoil, upheaval, and hostilities.

Whenever individuals, companies, or nations that are wealthier and stronger prey upon those that are not, the structure of civilization frays. If these actions are left unchecked, the system fails. Allowing it to persist, the world can fall into chaos and war. We have seen this pattern previously.

Today, we live in a international landscape grown vastly more unequal. Authority and resources are held by fewer hands than ever before. This encourages the elite to exploit the disadvantaged because they feel above the law.

The fortunes of a small group of tycoons is staggering. The influence of big tech, big oil, and large defense contractors covers a vast portion of the world. AI is could consolidate economic and political clout even more. The military might of the leading countries is without parallel in human history.

Supported by complicit legislators and a pliant supreme court, the highest office has been turned into the supreme and answerable-to-none agent of the state in history.

Combine these factors and you perceive the threat.

A clear connection links previous transgressions to present-day menaces. Each were premised on the hubris of absolute power.

You see parallel dynamics in international affairs: in wars of aggression, in expansive ambitions, and in the rampant monopolization by powerful corporate entities.

However, raw power does not establish right. It fosters uncertainty, revolution, and armed conflict.

History shows that frameworks designed to check the influential also shield them. Absent these limits, their insatiable demands for increased control and resources in time cause their collapse – taking down their corporations, nations, or empires. And risk world war.

This kind of contempt for legal order will plague America and the global community – and the very idea of civilization – for the foreseeable future.
